The 1999 film "The Mummy" is about three adventurers in 1923 Egypt who accidently awaken a 3000 year old ancient Egyptian mummy of a renegade priest. The mummy has acquired all kinds of magical powers including creating hordes of beetles and sandstorms. The story is very loosely based on the 1932 Boris Karloff film written by Karl Freund. Early in the film the men play poker for American money and a United States half dollar coin appears on the table. The coin is a Walking Liberty type of half dollar minted from 1916 to 1947.

In ancient Egypt during the reign of Pharaoh Seti I the high priest Imhotep has a forbidden relationship with the Pharaoh's girlfriend. Imhotep is punished by being wrapped as a mummy and buried alive. In 1923 Rick O'Connell, an American adventurer, and Evelyn Carnahan, a librarian and Egyptologist, and her brother Jonathan, travel to the site of the ancient city of Hamunaptra believing that gold treasure is buried there. On the ship travelling from Cairo men play poker for American Money.

American currency notes are shown on a table, they are imitation prop notes. Some American coins appear including a half dollar.

The coin is a Walking Liberty type of half dollar.

The adventurers get off the ship and head into the desert, locate the ancient city, and begin exploring.

They find a book of Egyptian spells and by reading one awaken Imhotep after 3000 years. The three return to Cairo followed by Imhotep who wants Evelyn as a girlfriend. They visit Evelyn's former employer, Terence Bey, to seek advice.

Imhotep has followed the three to Cairo.

Back in the ancient city the three finally locate an ancient spell which destroys the mummy. They then ride off with a small amount of treasure.
