"Daniel Boone" was a one-hour television program which ran on the NBC television network from 1964 to 1970. The star is Fess Parker as Daniel Boone who wears a coonskin cap similar to the one that he wore previously as "Davy Crockett". The regular characters are Daniel Boone, his wife Rebecca, and their son Israel. The series is set in the 1770s and 1780s in a rural frontier community. This episode is titled "The Witness" and was first broadcast on January 25, 1968. Israel and two other boys, Stinky and Pudge, have been playing, pretending to be pirates. They witness a local man murder a visitor. At one point Israel and another boy search the man's house and find a treasure chest full of gold coins. The coins are, of course, prop coins.

Israel Boone and two friends Stinky and Pudge have been watching a house, the home of a mysterious couple named Pike.

A man visits the house and the boys see Mr. Pike kill the man with the assistance of Mrs. Pike.

The boys accidently leave behind evidence of their visit. Israel tells his mother but she doesn't believe him. Daniel Boone takes his son to visit Mr. Pike.

Daniel orders his son to apologize to Mr. Pike. The Pikes then attempt to find the boys and silence them. Daniel and Stinky break into the Pike house and conduct a search for evidence.

They open the chest.

The chest is full of gold coins, obviously prop or imitation coins.

The Pikes find the boys and force them to bury the chest and dig their own graves. The boys escape and head for their cave, pursued by the Pikes. In the cave Mr. Pike encounters a trip wire.

The local law enforcement is left with the Pikes.

Daniel explains that Mr. Pike and a partner stole an army payroll. The partner visited Mr. Pike to demand his share. Daniel mentions that the army will be happy to have it's money back.
