"Baywatch" was an one-hour television series which ran on the NBC television network for one year and then in syndication from 1989 to 1999. It was set on a Los Angeles beach and the main characters were lifeguards who patrolled the beaches. This episode is titled "Go for the Gold" and was first broadcast on May 13, 1996. Two lifeguards are diving and one finds a gold item. They take the item to a marine store whose owner cleans the item and finds that it is a Spanish medallion, similar to a large Spanish coin. The gold medallion is shown in the store and appears to be an imitation of a Spanish doubloon with a couple of items attached.

The Baywatch crew of lifeguards and others appear.

Cody Madison and Stephanie Holden are lifeguards. They are diving to the ocean floor as part of an exercise. Cody sees something.

Cody pulls the item out of the dirt and the pair head to a boat on the surface. Cody shows the item to Stephanie and Hobie Buchannon, another lifeguard.

They believe that the item is a Spanish coin from a shipwreck and take it to a local man who runs a marine store.

Cody shows the item to the shop owner.

The store owner cleans off the item revealing what appears to be a gold coin.

The shop owner explains that it is a medallion worn by a Spanish gentleman to indicate his class. There are two pins sticking out from the medallion and the shop man tells Cody that one was a toothpick and the other was to clean ears. Cody and his girlfriend lifeguard C.J. are at home.

There is a non-numismatic story involving the capture of drug smugglers and another story about a pack rat stealing items. After these adventures Cody and C.J. get together.
