The 1940 British film "The Proud Valley" is set in the coal mining region of Wales.
 
David Goliath (Paul Robeson) is an African-American sailor who lands in Wales and takes a job as a coal miner. The mine owners close the mine after an accident and David joins a group of miners who plan to march to London to demand that the mine be reopened.
