The 1959 film "The Miracle" is set during Napoleon's invasion of Spain (AD 1807-1814).

A Spanish nun Teresa (Carroll Baker) is at a convent in Salamanca, Spain. Teresa falls in love with a visiting British officer and leaves the convent.

The convent statue of the Virgin Mary comes to life and takes Teresa's place as a nun.

Teresa has a number of adventures including a stay with some Gypsies. A Gypsy named Carlitos betrays the Gypsy chief Guido to the French. A French captain tosses a bag of gold coins to Carlitos and they spill out onto the ground.

The coins are prop coins which imitate real Spanish coins of the period.
