The 1951 film "The Last Outpost" is a Western film set in 1862 during the American Civil War.
 
Confederate Captain Vance Britton (Ronald Reagan) leads a group of soldiers who have been stopping Union shipments of goods to Union posts.
 
Union Colonel Jeb Britton (Bruce Bennett), Vance's brother, is sent west with some soldiers to stop the raids. They meet in an Arizona town called San Gil where Julie McQuade (Rhonda Fleming), Vance's former girlfriend, lives.
 
Vance learns of a Union shipment of gold coins being sent to the town and attempts to steal it by disguising himself as a Union officer.

Julie watches while Jeb holds a gun on Vance.
 
Vance then cuts open the horse saddlebag with his sword.

Jeb and Vance ride off and Union soldiers pick up the coins.
 
Later the Union soldiers are in the town and are holding some Indians. The Indians attack the town and a battle begins between the Union soldiers and the Indians.
 
The cavalry rides to the rescue, that is, the Confederate cavalry.

Jeb gets to keep the gold and Vance agrees to take his men back to the South to be followed by Julie.
