The 2002 film "The Count of Monte Cristo" is based on the famous novel The Count of Monte Cristo by the French writer Alexandre Dumas.
 
In 1815 merchant ship officer Edmond Dantes (Jim Caviezel) is framed by three men for various crimes and sent to an island prison. Edmond meets another prisoner who gives him directions to a treasure located on the island of Monte Cristo After several years Edmond manages to escape to the sea and then to the island where he finds the treasure in an underwater cave.
 
Some of the treasure is loose and some is in the traditional treasure chests which contain coins. Lots of imitation prop coins are used.

1. Edmond Dantes opens the chest
The chest is full of gold coins. The coins appear to be imitation prop coins of various sizes. Some are imitations of ancient Roman coins.
 
Edmund Dantes sends his servant Jacopo to see a count to purchase his house. The count refuses to sell the house at first but then Jacopo opens the chest.

This chest is also full of gold coins.
 
As part of his revenge scheme Edmund Dantes sends a chest of coins on a ship and then informs officials that the ship's captain is a smuggler. One of the chests falls open.
