The 1961 film "Atlantis the Lost Continent" is set around the time of classical Greece. Atlantis was the legendary continent located somewhere in the Atlantic ocean which sank into the ocean.

The film explains, in a prologue, that Atlantis is responsible for similarities in cultures and objects found in both the Old World and the New World. Among the objects shown are piles of coins.

In the film, a Greek sailor arrives in Atlantis and discovers a scientifically advanced group of people whose dictatorial leaders want to conquer the world.

The sailor is kept as a slave, then freed, works his way into the management, and finally, during the destruction of Atlantis, leaves the island with a princess.

At the beginning of the film, piles of ancient coins are shown on a map, and later, the hero receives a bag of coins from the evil ruler for his assistance.
