The Knights of St. John of Jerusalem were a Crusader military order. They relocated to the island of Malta and were sometimes known as the Knights of Malta.
 
This item was manufactured by the Franklin Mint of Pennsylvania for a modern version of the order known as the "Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem."
 
The Knights are mentioned in Dashiell Hammett's novel The Maltese Falcon as having made the Falcon as a gift to the King of Spain.

This item was part of a set struck by the Franklin Mint of Pennsylvania. "Franklinium" is an alloy created by the Franklin Mint. It is a copper-nickel alloy mixed with Columbium (Niobium).
