This episode of the television program "The Twilight Zone" shows American silver dollars in circulation in 1960. "The Twilight Zone" was a half-hour television program which ran on the CBS television network from 1959 to 1965. This episode is titled "The Fever" and was first broadcast on January 29, 1960. The story is about a man who visits a Las Vegas casino and becomes obsessed with a slot machine.

Franklin and Flora Gibbs are spending three days at a Las Vegas casino, a prize that Mrs. Gibbs won in a magazine contest.

Two slick casino employees welcome the couple and discover that they are from a very conservative part of the United States and Franklin does not like the gambling going on. The third character in the story is a casino dollar slot machine.

In the early 1960's US silver dollars were used in the casinos.

The slot machine showing the antique design of old and ancient coins. The slot machine is a Watling Rol-a-top machine made in the 1930's. The slot machines in the program are of many different types and mostly from the 1930's. Slot machines were illegal in California when the program was produced and the ones shown came from the local police force's confiscated machines. Franklin is given a silver dollar by a drunk and plays it, winning around twenty dollars.

The machine has a grand prize of $10,000 and smaller payouts are in coins.

Again, both Morgan and Peace dollars appear. Flora and Franklin go up to their hotel room but Franklin can not sleep. He stares at the pile of coins.

He sees the pile growing larger.

Franklin takes the coins back to the casino and begins playing. When he runs out of money he cashes a check at the casino cashier. Flora tries to get him to quit but Franklin continues and attracts a crowd.

Finally the machine breaks and then so does Franklin.

Franklin is taken back to his room where he imagines the machine has followed him.

The machine flashes a light, smiles, and calls to him "Franklin."

The machine backs Franklin into a window.

Franklin falls out of the window and to the ground, where an emergency crew finds him dead. The lost silver dollar rolls out and returns to him.
