This episode of the television program "Monk" shows a San Francisco coin dealer's office including tables with gold and silver coins.
 
"Monk" was a one hour television program which ran on various channels from 2002 to 2009.
 
Tony Shalhoub plays Adrian Monk, a former San Francisco police detective. His long-standing neuroses and obsessive-compulsive disorder became worse after his wife was murdered and they led to his leaving the police force but continuing to assist them as a private or consulting detective.
 
This episode is titled "Mr. Monk Is Up All Night" and was first broadcast on September 14, 2007.
 
Adrian Monk has insomnia and wanders the streets of San Francisco one night.
 
He hears some noises coming from a closed restaurant kitchen, looks in a window, and witnesses a local rare coin dealer attempting to buy cocaine followed by a man shooting an undercover policeman.
 
Monk and police detectives visit the rare coin dealer whose office and some coins are shown.

Adrian Monk and his assistant/friend Natalie Teeger are out walking when Monk sees a woman who he becomes obsessed with. This obsession leads to insomnia and he discusses his problems with a psychiatrist.

Monk talks to the psychiatrist about his obsession with the woman, who he has never met.

Monk later identifies her as Maria Cordova, a taxi driver.

4. Mr. Monk reads a book
Monk, back at his apartment, can not sleep and reads a book, Almost Perfect Murder by Hy Conrad. (Hy Conrad was one of the producers of the program) He calls Natalie and then goes outside for a walk.

5. Mr. Monk wanders the streets of San Francisco
Monk hears noises coming from a restaurant and looks in a window at the kitchen.

6. Drug deal gone bad
A man is trying to buy cocaine from a dealer and an undercover policeman. The dealer pulls out a gun and shoots the policeman who falls to the floor dead.
 
Monk calls his police friends Captain Leland Stottlemeyer and Randall Disher but when they arrive there is no body and the restaurant kitchen has been cleaned up. Stottlemeyer and Disher try to convince Monk that he imagined the event.
 
At a train station Monk sees the "dead man" putting stuff into a garbage can. Once again, he calls his police friends.

7. Mr. Monk finds a business envelope
Monk looks in the can and finds an envelope with the address of a rare coin dealer. He and the detectives visit the "Jacob Posner Rare Coins."

The sign also reads "Est. 1982." Inside the store are displays of coins.

The coins appear to be gold Spanish doubloons and smaller silver coins.
 
While the detectives talk to Mr. Posner, a few coin albums are visible behind the men.

Monk notices that some coin tray are empty of coins but still have labels, and asks Posner.

Posner claims that he sold them.
 
Another scene of the coin store shows more trays of coins.

The dealer's back room is also shown with lots of photographs.
 
Detective Disher pulls out a coin and asks Posner if it is worth anything.

13. Posner answers rare coin question
Posner tells him it is worth millions if he uses it to buy a winning lottery ticket.
 
Later the "dead man" from the kitchen is actually found dead.
 
Monk sees something which allows him to reconstruct what actually happened.

14. Crime reconstruction - The quick recovery
The coin dealer was the victim of a scam where the "drug dealer" pretended to shoot the "undercover policeman", then the "drug dealer" told the coin dealer that he would clean up the crime scene in exchange for some coins.

15. Crime reconstruction - The payoff
The coin dealer hands over the coins to the "drug dealer."
 
Monk then figures that the coin dealer, after being questioned by the policemen, found that he had been scammed and took a gun to avenge himself on the scammers.
 
Monk saves two of the scammers from the coin dealer and all of the group are arrested.
 
Monk then meets Maria, the taxi driver he is obsessed with.

He finds that Maria had a connection with his dead wife.
