The 1941 film "That Night in Rio" is a color musical set in Brazil's Rio de Janiero. Businessman Baron Manuel Duarte (Don Ameche) is married to Baroness Cecilia Duarte (Alice Faye). Larry Martin (also Don Ameche) is a nightclub entertainer whose girlfriend is Carmen (Carmen Miranda).
 
Larry is recruited by business associates of Baron Duarte to impersonate the Baron while the real Baron leaves for a business trip. Larry takes the opportunity to play around with Cecilia.
 
Machado (J. Carrol Naish) is a business rival of Baron Duarte who wears a monicle. Larry imitates Machado by wearing a silver dollar as a monicle.
