The Robe (1953)
Roman soldiers crucify Christ and gamble coins over his robe
Prev Back Next
The 1953 film "The Robe" is based on the Lloyd C. Douglas novel of the same title about the (fictional) Roman officer who commanded the soldiers at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) is a Roman Tribune (high-ranking officer) who gets into political trouble at home in Rome and is sent to Roman occupied Palestine.

The Roman governor, Pontius Pilate (Richard Boone), orders Marcellus to take some soldiers and crucify Jesus Christ on Calvary hill. While Jesus is dying Paulus (Jeff Morrow), a cynical Roman officer, picks up Jesus's robe and offers it to the men to throw dice over.
