The 1956 film "The Man Who Never Was" is about a scheme begun by British officials during World War II to fool the Germans into believing that a military invasion would occur at a different location than expected.
 
British naval officers including Ewen Montagu (Clifton Webb) procures a body from a morgue, dress it in a British officer's uniform as "Major Martin", include various papers including identification papers, officers club receipts, currency, and coins. Secret papers about the fake invasion are also included.
 
The body is dropped off the coast of Spain near a town hosting German agents ensuring that they would examine the body and the papers.
 
The scheme works and the Germans are fooled.
 
Among the items used to fool the Germans are British coins.
