The 2001 film "From Hell" is loosely based on the "Jack the Ripper" murders which occurred in Whitechapel, London in 1888. Frederick Abberline (Johnny Depp) is an investigator into the murders who becomes involved with Mary Kelly (Heather Graham), a woman target by the Ripper.
 
Abberline realizes that he can not have a life with Mary and dies of an opium overdose.
 
A police sergeant places two coins over Abberline's eyes.
