The 1948 film "The Boy with Green Hair" is a color fantasy film about a little boy.
 
Peter Fry (Dean Stockwell) is a young boy who the police find wandering with his head shaved. The police take him to a Dr. Evans to whom he tells his story, that he is an orphan living with his grandfather Gramp Fry and one morning he woke up and his hair had turned green.
 
At one point the grandfather tries to amuse Peter by showing him a magic trick using a silver dollar.

Peter is taken to Dr. Evans (who interviews the boy and gets his story.
 
Peter Fry's parents were killed in World War II making him an orphan. He was sent to live with his grandfather Gramp Fry, a retired stage actor and magician.
 
Gramp tries to amuse Peter by showing him a magic trick using a silver dollar.

The coin appears to be a US silver dollar.

Peter is a serious boy and is not interested in tricks.
 
One morning Peter wakes up and finds that his hair has turned green.

His hair causes him problems but he comes to believe that he should use the attention he will receive and become an anti-war activist.
 
Some of the adults do not like this and convince him to have his head shaved.
 
Back at Dr. Evans's office the doctor tells Peter that he is all right.

Peter replies that his hair will grow back.
