Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
Would-be bank robbers get small bills and small change
Prev Back Next
The 1967 film "Bonnie and Clyde" is very loosely based on the story of the early 1930's outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow who committed robberies and murders in several states before being ambushed and gunned down by law enforcement men.

The film was designed to be stylish more than a documentary and there many differences between the historical couple and the couple in the film.

Bonnie meets Clyde when she interrupts him attempting to steal her mother's car. They form an immediate attachment and begin committing robberies. Later Clyde's brother Buck and his wife Blanche join the gang along with a young gas station attendant C.W. Moss.

The pair then start killing people during their robberies and become the subject of a hunt by many law enforcement personnel. Buck is killed during this period and Blanche is arrested.

Finally C.W.'s father makes a deal with the police to give them the location of Bonnie and Clyde in return for leniency for his son.

The pair have bad luck in their robberies, one bank has failed, and from the others they get a few hundred dollars in bills and some loose coin change.

There are several scenes of US currency including one scene with US coins. The bills and coins appear to be of more modern designs than those which were used in the 1930's.

Some of the one dollar bills are Federal Reserve notes which were manufactured starting in 1963. The coins look newer also and the larger ones appear to be the clad coins minted starting in 1965. A correct for the period "Mercury" dime appears to the right.
