The 2021 film "The Automat" is a documentary film about the Horn & Hardart Automat coin operated restaurants which existed in New York City and Philadelphia from 1902 to 1991. They were usually known as just "Automats."

They sold coffee, cakes, and other food items through small coin operated windows, the prices were one or multiple nickels (5 cent coins).

The restaurants were forced out of business due to inflation and people moving from large cities to suburbs.

The documentary shows the history of the Automat restaurants and features interviews with celebrities who remember the Automats from their younger days.
