The Monkees make a pay telephone call and use a "Mad Money" dime

The NBC television program "The Monkees" is a musical comedy about a 1960'S rock band.
The four young men forming the group live in Los Angeles and get into all sorts of wild adventures.
The music was originally provided by other musicians but later the four actors also produced the music.

1. Program title
The four Monkees are in their apartment.
2. Davy, Micky, Mike, Peter
Micky has seen a horrible sight.
3. The Four Martians
"The Four Martians" rock band visit and mention that they received a letter inviting them to audition
for producer Hubbell Bensen's new television program.
4. The Jolly Green Giants
"The Jolly Green Giants" look in the window and brag that they have also received an invitation.
5. Checking the mail
The Monkees check their mail but do not find an invitation.
6. Hubbell Bensen and Miss Chomsky
Irene Chomsky is Hubbell's assistant. They play a tape recorder which they have
borrowed which has an old recording of a Monkees performance. They pair like the music and try
to find out the name of the band which recorded it and to offer the group a music contract.
7. Hubbell gives news interview
Hubbell calls reporters to his office to announce his search for the unknown band.
8. The Monkees audition
The Monkees use a coin-operated telephone to call Hubbell and play their song for him.
Davy is holding the telephone and the call is interrupted.
Davy makes another call and asks Peter for a dime. Peter pulls up his pant leg to expose his boot.
9. Mad Money
The boot has a piece of tape labeled "Mad $" or "mad money", an old expression for emergency money.
10. Dime
Peter removes the tape exposing a silver Roosevelt dime.
Hubbell learns that the Monkees made the tape and visits their apartment.
11. The Monkees audition in person
Miss Chomsky sings along with the Monkees.
12. Miss Chomsky sings
Miss Chomsky sings the program theme song and Hubbell hires her for his television program.
The lads then discuss a real-life event which occurred at the time, the "Sunset Strip Riots."
13. The lads discuss the event
They claim that the teenagers were upset with alcohol laws and curfews, the demonstrators were
older people, and that the reporters called the events riots because "journalists dont know how to spell
demonstration" and "riot" has only four letters.
