Father Brown was a one hour British television series, which originally aired on Independent Television (ITV) in 1974. The program was based on the Father Brown stories written by G. K. Chesterton from 1910 to 1936.

Father Brown was a Roman Catholic priest and amateur detective living in England. He was sometimes assisted by Hercule Flambeau, a reformed criminal.

The episodes starred Kenneth More as Father Brown and Dennis Burgess as Hercule Flambeau.

This episode is titled "The Head of Caesar" and was first broadcast on December 5, 1974.

Christabel Carstairs is a young woman. She enters a pub and encounters Father Brown who notices her distress and invites her to tell him her story. She talks about her father's valuable collection of ancient Roman coins and admits to stealing one of the coins, an uncirculated bronze coin of Caesar Augustus (BC 27 - AD 14), and giving it to her boyfriend whose profile resembles the profile on the coin.

The Augustus coin obverse is shown and is a modern imitation with the actor's profile.
Also shown is the reverse of a British Victoria florin.

3. Christabel talks to Father Brown
Christabel's great-grandfather was a coin collector who assembled a large collection of ancient Roman coins. Her father, the wealthy Colonel Carstairs, continued the collection, and when he died he left it to his older son Arthur. The colonel left most of his money and a large house to Christabel and a small sum to the younger brother Giles.

She claims that the man following her is attempting to extort money from her in return for keeping silent about her theft from her brother Arthur of an valuable uncirculated bronze coin of Caesar Augustus (BC 27 - AD 14).

A scene appears which is set when Colonel Carstairs was alive and competing with a coin dealer Mr. Truslove at auctions for rare coins.

The three siblings do not get along as Christabel owns the house that Arthur is living in. The younger brother has returned to Britain after (he says) spending time in Australia.

Christabel has an interest in art and been taking a painting class. The male model, Philip Hawker, attracts her attention as his profile strongly resembles the profile on the Augustus coin. They start seeing each other.

Philip complains that he doesn't like her paying for their dates and she decides to give him the coin as a present.
