The 1953 film "Young Bess" is a fictionalized version of the early life of England's Queen Elizabeth I when she was Princess or Lady Elizabeth and here "Young Bess" (Jean Simmons). The setting is roughly from 1536 to 1558.
 
Thomas Seymour (Stewart Granger) is a dashing sailor, court official for England's King Henry VIII, (Charles Laughton) and uncle of Henry's little son Edward. Young Bess falls in love with him.
 
Elizabeth and Thomas become friends with King Henry's young son Edward. King Henry dies and Edward becomes the nine year old boy King Edward VI. Thomas secretly hides gold coins for the boy to find.

King Henry threatens his wife Catherine Parr (Deborah Kerr).
 
He later collapses and is taken back to the palace.

King Henry VIII is dying and his three children, Mary, Edward, and Elizabeth, are in attendance.
 
Henry dies and is succeeded by Edward VI. Edward has two uncles, Ned Seymour, a calculating courtier, and Thomas Seymour, a dashing admiral. Thomas has been leaving gold coins for his nephew to find.
