hires a young woman to take care of his two children. The nearby boarded up Tygarth house is the scene for
mysterious events.

Maxine, the previous governess, has been hanging around the neighborhood and visiting Barney.
She enters the house and David finds her.

Elizabeth discovers that the Fielding house basement connects with the Tygarth house basement.

Elizabeth and Barney enter the Tygarth house and see a shadowed man shoot Mrs. Tygarth.
Both return to the Fielding house and tell Mr. Fielding and Dr. Evans.
