The 1994 film "Crooklyn" is about a black family, the Carmichaels, living in the New York Brooklyn Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in 1973.
 
The parents are Carolyn who teaches school and Woody an unemployed musician. The film mainly focuses on the five children Troy, the only girl age 9, and her four brothers Clinton, Wendell, Nate, and Joseph. The children play games and have various adventures.
 
Clinton has a collection of sports posters and a collection of United States Buffalo nickels. The coins are kept in a 1950's Whitman blue folder which is shown along with some of the coins.
 
Clinton's sister calls them "funny-lookin' nickels."

Troy enters Clinton's room and takes two tickets to a New York Knicks basketball game.
She then looks in a drawer.

There is a blue folder marked "Buffalo nickels".
The folder is a 1950's Whitman coin folder manufactured by the Whitman Publishing Company of Racine Wisconsin. The folder is Number 9008, "Buffalo nickels 1913-1938"

Clinton sees the missing tickets and asks Troy:
"Troy! You seen my Knicks tickets? Gimme my tickets and I'll let you go."

Troy replies: "I spent them funny-lookin' nickels of yours also."
 
The Carmichael family visit rich cousins living in Virginia.

The family returns to Brooklyn leaving Troy to stay longer where she celebrates her tenth birthday and returns home.
 
Carolyn enters a hospital where she dies.
