The 1942 film "Arabian Nights" is a fictional story of the Baghdad Caliph Haroun Al Raschid (Jon Hall) and the dancer Sherazade (Maria Montez). Sherazade believes that she is destined to marry a king and be a queen.

Haroun Al Raschid's brother Kamar Al Zaman wants her and attempts to take Haroun's throne. Haroun, assisted by circus entertainer Ali Ben Ali (Sabu) regains his throne and Sherazade.

Haroun Al Raschid was a real caliph of Baghdad from AD 786 to AD 809.

Although they are mentioned, there are no fantasy elements in the film, no genies or magic lamps.
